Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD), Inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) and Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers were used to verify the segregation of the genus Cassia L. senso lato into three distinct genera namely Chamaecrista Moench., Senna P. Mill. and Cassia L. sensostricto Eighteen representatives of the three taxa were characterized using the molecular markers. 25 RAPD, six ISSR primers and six AFLP primer combinations resulted in the amplification of 612, 115 and 622 bands (loci) respectively. Macrophomina phaseolina has been considered one of the most prevalent soybean (Glycine max) pathogens in Brazil. No genetic resistance has been determined in soybean and very little is known about the genetic diversity of this pathogen in tropical and sub-tropical regions. Fifty-five isolates from soybean roots were collected in different regions and analyzed through RAPD for genetic diversity. The UPGMA cluster analysis for 74 loci scored permitted identification of three divergent groups with an average similarity of 99%, 92% and 88%, respectively. Cercospora kikuchii, involved with the defoliation of soybean (Glycine max) plants, is normally associated with Septoria glycines in late season. Seventy-two isolates from different regions in Brazil, obtained mainly from purple stained seeds, showed phenotypic variation. Cercosporin content and rate of colony growth was higly variable among isolates. A strong correlation between cercosporin content and virulence was identified. Genetic variation among and within populations was evaluated based on 86 RAPD loci. The RAPD analysis clustered all isolates into seven groups. A antracnose é a doença pós-colheita mais importante do maracujá amarelo, cujo agente etiológico, no Brasil, foi identificado como Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Visando caracterizar o patógeno, foram obtidos 33 isolados de três regiões produtoras do estado de Pernambuco. Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is a Gram-negative bacillus, which is becoming widely recognized as an important nosocomial pathogen. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the genetic relatedness, by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) of 86 clinical isolates of S. maltophilia (colonization 22, infection 64) obtained from 79 hospitalized patients, from different geographic regions of São Paulo State. A utilização de marcadores moleculares pode servir para direcionar cruzamentos, confirmar novos híbridos e identificar genótipos para fins comerciais. Nesse contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar a diversidade genética entre cultivares e híbridos de Brachiaria spp. e Panicum maximum usando marcadores moleculares do tipo RAPD (Polimorfismos de DNA amplificados ao acaso). Foram 22 genótipos analisados com 10 primers, os quais amplificaram 178 fragmentos polimórficos de DNA, que foram usados para estimar a similaridade genética por meio do coeficiente de Jaccard. Em experimentos em casa de vegetação e câmara de crescimento, estudou-se o possível aparecimento de réplicas em 20 variedades crioulas de arroz do Maranhão, mantidas no Banco Ativo de Germoplasma (BAG), do Centro Nacional de Pesquisa em Arroz e Feijão (CNPAF). As vinte variedades, divididas em seis grupos, com nomes similares e números de acessos diferentes no BAG foram avaliadas quanto à similaridade morfológica e molecular. In order to verify whether genetic distance (GD) is associated with population mean (PM), genetic variance (GV) and the proportion of superior progenies generated by each cross in advanced generations of selfing (PS), the genetic distances between eight soybean lines (five adapted and three non-adapted) were estimated using 213 polymorphic RAPD markers. The genetic distances were partitioned according to Griffing's Model I Method 4 for diallel analysis, i.e., GDij = GD+ GGDi+ GGDj + SGDij. The genus Metarhizium consists of a diverse group of asexual entomopathogenic fungi, which have a wide geographical distribution. The Chilean National Agricultural Research Institute (Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias - INIA, Quilamapu Chile) has collected about 350 isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae var. anisopliae from central and southern Chile. These isolates have been partially characterized using morphological traits such as conidia size and shape, colony color, growth pattern and the efficiency of the isolates in controlling specific pests.
